"Tel Megiddo, Armageddon, Israel" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

I found this oil painting to be quite challenging to complete, probably because I rarely paint animals or palm trees!  Once I finished it, I recalled its origin in my travel memories:  Last year my husband and I went to Israel for the first time and found it to be simply fabulous.  Knowing that civilization began in this part of the world, one could get very overwhelmed just by the historical, never mind the religious, nature of the country.  When we drove up to Tel Megiddo, I'll be honest, I really did not know its story.  However, upon entering the visitors' center and museum and shop, I was amazed to find that the name for this archeological site is also Armageddon, a frightening thought to comprehend, because in the book of Revelations in Christianity the beginning of the end of the world as we know it will occur there.

We walked up the worn, dusty, arid trail, to view the ruins and look down into the valley and saw visitors from other places in the world who also came to view this place which so inspires awe.  I would urge you to go to this valley and see for yourself the incredible views and learn more about the history of Israel.

"Shalom in Blues" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

ALERT: You are about to view art of a different nature. These are paintings on glass -- that is, painted directly onto glass with specially formulated glass paints. They are always framed for the protection of the glass. The paints often are transparent and sometimes opaque, giving a stained glass appearance under good light. They, like all fine art, should not be hung in direct sunlight. The photographs do not do them justice -- my colors are very vibrant. Close ups are available, just e-mail me for information (see below). In most instances, click on the actual image for an even larger image to view -- you'll see lots of different items such as marbelization, transparent or opaque parts of the work -- try it and see! Commissions are accepted.

"Shalom in Blues" is just that -- peace with hues of blue. I find the color blue to often be calming and so chose it with this in mind. It's a simple painting but to the point.

"Shalom in Blues", framed 5"x7" painting on glass, $125 includes s&h in N. America, Paypal preferred, click button below or write for more information to KarlaNolan@gmail.com -- thank you for looking!

"Shalom Bayit -- Peace in the Home" by Karla Nolan, FRAMED glass painting

ALERT: You are about to view art of a different nature. These are paintings on glass -- that is, painted directly onto glass with specially formulated glass paints. They are always framed for the protection of the glass. The paints often are transparent and sometimes opaque, giving a stained glass appearance under good light. The very idea of peace in the home seems to be an alien idea for some people, I hear. Wouldn't it be so sad to grow up in a dysfunctional abode where people fight day and night, where there is such tragedy or trauma, where one doesn't have a sense of well being? I don't have that background, luckily, but have met those who do. Fortunately, I grew up with unconditional love -- some say this can't be so, but it is true to my way of thinking -- my mother was from Colorado, the southeastern corner of it -- pioneer family! My father escaped Nazi Germany, losing almost all of his immediate and extended family, just for being Jewish. Putting the two people together, with such diverse upbringing and background could made for a bit of chaos. But I feel very strongly that because of their different backgrounds and of the times in which they grew up, they emphasized the bond that family should have. I have tried to do the same, along with my husband, with my family. And I am eternally grateful to my parents for all the loved that has been shown to me and my siblings.

"Shalom Bayit -- Peace in the Home", framed glass painting, 5"x7" edge to edge glass, $125, Paypal preferred, s&h included in N. America; click button below or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information. Thanks so much for looking!!!!

"Shalom in Red Hues" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

Shalom!

We're back from a trip to the southeastern part of the United States, Savannah, Georgia, and Charleston, South Carolina, to be exact. Talk about hot and humid -- these places are very much that! I'm not sure why we chose to travel in the heat of the summer but am certainly glad that we did. The scenery was exquisite -- Savannah with the Spanish moss hanging from the trees, particularly the crepe myrtles, which were in bloom, the luscious squares that Oglethorpe planned. Charleston has its own charm, a revitalized city with the old buildings recaptured with colonial elegance. So...I have another story to tell about Savannah, but will wait on that for an upcoming blog. I want to make sure I have my details correct -- it's about the Jews who reached the city....

This painting is something of a "marbelized" shalom -- the paints sometimes call the shots, not me. It's rich in its red hues and was an interesting production.

"Shalom in Red Hues", 8"x10" measured edge to edge glass, framed as shown, $240 includes shipping/handling in North America, Paypal preferred, click button below, or write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information

"Sea Waves Shalom" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

The reason I named this particular painting on glass "Sea Waves Shalom" is when you see a close up view of it, it truly is reminiscent of the waves in the ocean. Ah, if we only lived near an ocean. I would love it. There is nothing quite as peaceful and calming to me as lying in the sun in the sand on the beach, listening to the pounding surf. This will have to suffice as a replacement for now. Shalom!
